Deputy Floyd L. Rose was killed attempting to arrest an escapee from the Millard County jail.

Deputy Rose was part of a three-man posse searching a home near the sugar plant in Delta. During the search of the cellar, the suspect was discovered, and a gunfight erupted. Although shot three times with a .30-30 rifle, Deputy Rose continued to return fire until he collapsed from his wounds. The suspect, who was wounded in the exchange, fled to a nearby canal where he was overtaken and shot to death by another posse. Deputy Rose died before medical aid could reach the scene. Married and the father of a nine-month-old daughter, Deputy Rose is buried in Delta City Cemetery.

The bronze memorial name plaque of Deputy Floyd L. Rose is sponsored by the Millard County Sheriff’s Office.
