Trooper Randy K. Ingram

Trooper Ingram was killed on Interstate 15 south of Nephi. At 9:30 p.m., the 39-year-old victim was parked in the right-hand emergency lane at milepost #208, writing a warning citation to a motorist. While Trooper Ingram was seated in his patrol vehicle, he was struck from behind by a semi-truck. The impact crushed the patrol vehicle, killing Trooper Ingram instantly. The driver of the truck later pleaded guilty to a charge of negligent homicide. Trooper Ingram was married and the father of two children. He is buried in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi.  In 1998, the Utah Highway Patrol Association posted its first memorial cross at milepost #208. Trooper Ingram’s bronze name plaque is sponsored by the Utah Highway Patrol Association.

    I was traveling with the Driver of the Van who received the warning that fateful night and saw the devastating scene. I think about Randy and his family each time I slow down and change lanes to protect and officer from injury during routine stopsI hope his family is doing well at this time.
